Lawson State Community College in Birmingham, Alabama is seeking a Media and Marketing Specialist to oversee social media content coordination, multimedia production, storytelling, and media relations in support of the college’s brand and strategic goals. This onsite role combines hands-on content creation with collaboration across campus and with freelancers and vendors to elevate the college’s communications. The position offers a salary range of USD 40,583 to 66,302 per year and requires an associate’s degree or equivalent.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a cross platform social media content strategy across Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, and YouTube.
- Assist in developing and writing news stories and publications.
- Produce photography and short-form video content for campus events and storytelling.
- Coordinate with external vendors and freelancers for larger multimedia projects and paid advertising.
- Identify, develop, and execute institutional storytelling aligned with the college’s strategic goals.
- Manage media relations: pitch stories, follow up with news media, and respond to inquiries.
- Assist with promotional item ordering, inventory, and distribution tracking.
- Assist with website revision requests and content updates for the web.
- Assist with the college’s IPOP and Ambassador Scholarship programs, as needed.
- Work a flexible schedule including limited evenings and weekends.
- Travel as needed to community and/or college events.
- Assume other professional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
- Associate’s degree or equivalent from a regionally accredited institution.
- Excellent knowledge and experience with social media platforms.
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365, Adobe Creative Suite, and Canva.
- Ability to operate a DSLR camera for photography and videography.
- Excellent oral, auditory, and written communication skills.
