Marketing Communications Specialist
Job Description
The Marketing Communications Specialist will oversee day-to-day execution of social media, email marketing, audience engagement, and digital campaign coordination for two brands, under the direction of the Marketing Director: the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race® and DockDogs®. This full-time role is based in Wasilla, Alaska, with a hybrid work arrangement, and offers a salary range of USD 40,000 - 45,000 per year.
Responsibilities
- Execute daily social media activity across Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and other digital platforms for Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race® and DockDogs®.
- Schedule, publish, and monitor content across both organizations.
- Moderate comments and engage with online communities.
- Support live and real-time event coverage during races, championships, and major activations.
- Maintain organized content calendars aligned with campaigns and sponsorship deliverables.
- Build and deploy email campaigns, newsletters, and promotional communications.
- Manage audience segmentation and email list organization.
- Support CRM and email marketing platform management.
- Monitor email analytics and provide performance reporting.
- Support integrated marketing campaigns across the Iditarod and DockDogs.
- Execute promotional campaigns related to events, merchandise, raffles, subscriptions, sponsorships, and audience engagement initiatives.
- Ensure consistent messaging across all communication channels.
- Provide real-time communication support during race operations and other major events.
- Assist with live updates, storytelling, and audience engagement during onsite activations.
- Track social media and email performance metrics.
- Identify opportunities to improve engagement, reach, and communication effectiveness.
- Provide regular reporting and insights to the Marketing Director and staff from both organizations.
- Work closely with internal departments, event teams, photographers, and external partners to coordinate communications and content needs.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Digital Media, or related field preferred; equivalent professional experience in marketing, communications, digital media, or related fields will be considered.
- Experience managing social media platforms for brands, organizations, events, or businesses.
- Strong written communication and storytelling skills.
- Experience with email marketing platforms such as Mailchimp, MailPoet, or similar systems.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
- Comfortable working evenings, weekends, and event schedules as needed.
- Ability to work in fast-paced, live-event environments.
- Familiarity with digital analytics and reporting tools preferred.
- Graphic design, photography, video editing, or livestream experience is a plus.
