Job Description

The Marketing Communications Specialist will oversee day-to-day execution of social media, email marketing, audience engagement, and digital campaign coordination for two brands, under the direction of the Marketing Director: the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race® and DockDogs®. This full-time role is based in Wasilla, Alaska, with a hybrid work arrangement, and offers a salary range of USD 40,000 - 45,000 per year.

Responsibilities

Execute daily social media activity across Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and other digital platforms for Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race® and DockDogs®.
Schedule, publish, and monitor content across both organizations.
Moderate comments and engage with online communities.
Support live and real-time event coverage during races, championships, and major activations.
Maintain organized content calendars aligned with campaigns and sponsorship deliverables.
Build and deploy email campaigns, newsletters, and promotional communications.
Manage audience segmentation and email list organization.
Support CRM and email marketing platform management.
Monitor email analytics and provide performance reporting.
Support integrated marketing campaigns across the Iditarod and DockDogs.
Execute promotional campaigns related to events, merchandise, raffles, subscriptions, sponsorships, and audience engagement initiatives.
Ensure consistent messaging across all communication channels.
Provide real-time communication support during race operations and other major events.
Assist with live updates, storytelling, and audience engagement during onsite activations.
Track social media and email performance metrics.
Identify opportunities to improve engagement, reach, and communication effectiveness.
Provide regular reporting and insights to the Marketing Director and staff from both organizations.
Work closely with internal departments, event teams, photographers, and external partners to coordinate communications and content needs.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Digital Media, or related field preferred; equivalent professional experience in marketing, communications, digital media, or related fields will be considered.
Experience managing social media platforms for brands, organizations, events, or businesses.
Strong written communication and storytelling skills.
Experience with email marketing platforms such as Mailchimp, MailPoet, or similar systems.
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
Comfortable working evenings, weekends, and event schedules as needed.
Ability to work in fast-paced, live-event environments.
Familiarity with digital analytics and reporting tools preferred.
Graphic design, photography, video editing, or livestream experience is a plus.
